If the Earth is billions of years old, why is history so short?

According to Evolutionists, Sapiens began to make written records about 4,000-5,000 years ago, but existed for about 190,000 years prior to that. Why wait 180,000 years and then suddenly start making art, cave paintings, farming, keeeping records?
