My parakeet chirps so loud that it's hurting my ears. Any idea what to do?

It's a high pitched shrill and he just does it over and over and over again. It's driving me crazy. and it's so high pitched it hurts! especially because the cage is right next to me on my desk. what should I do? any ideas on what he wants?
