Lord of the Flies?

So I love this book enormously, but I want to know more about the beginning. How did the boys get on the island in the first place? By plane, right, but the plane's not there, only the cabin wreck. Plus Piggy says, "We was attacked!" Does this mean their plane was shot at? Just give me your take on it.
